Hikvision Digital Technology Co., Ltd. is one of the leading manufacturers of CCTV equipment, i.e. DVRs, NVRs, analog and IP cameras. In the current IMS Research ranking, the company is the world’s largest supplier of video surveillance products and solutions, with the highest number of network DVRs for analog systems and taking the third place in the volume of production of IP CCTV cameras. Hikvision employs over 8000 employees in branches around the world (including China, USA, Australia, Great Britain, Brazil, Dubai, Holland, Italy, RSA, Singapore). More than 2800 of them are engineers from the R&D department. Hikvision is publicly listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange (value assessment: 12,100,000,000 USD).
Hikvision/Ultimax DVRs belong to the newest generation of digital video recorders for analog video surveillance systems. They have been designed on the basis of thorough knowledge and experience in CCTV technology of DIPOL and HIKVISION companies. More than 20 years of experience in contact with customers, remarks of the installers and users of our products, resulted in the creation of innovative products able to meet the most demanding requirements. With the introduction of the Ultimax line, we can offer devices that are better tailored to the customer's requirements than standard versions for the global market. An example is Ultimax 1300 that can operate two hard drives, each up to 4 TB, instead of one.
HIKVISION/Ultimax devices combine the latest technologies based on real-time operating system (Linux RTOS) and the most efficient compressing algorithms: H.264 (video) and G.711u (audio). H.264 is currently the most efficient video compression method. Compared to other popular algorithms - MJPEG and MPEG-4 - it can save up to 50% of disk space. In addition - it is especially important when working on the Internet - the transmission of the same amount of data generates significantly less network traffic. Thanks to the support of two video streams, the surveillance video can be watched on smartphones running Windows Mobile/Android/ IOS (using IVMS-4500 app), or on PCs (using IVMS-4000, or IVMS-4200 app), in both cases even via networks with low or moderate data rates.

Hikvision/Ultimax DVRs are both digital video and audio recorders, as well as digital video servers (DVS) that can cooperate with paid NUUO software or NUUO NVRs (using RTSP protocol) or as nodes of IP network controlled by free IVMS-4000 and IVMS-4200 applications. They can work as stand-alone devices in small CCTV systems, or be used to build powerful surveillance networks. With great versatility and flexibility, taking into account very specific options, they are used worldwide to protect banks, ATM/cash machines, telecommunications infrastructure, transport infrastructure, transport companies, factories, warehouses and commercial buildings, various institutions and companies.
Architecture of CCTV systems based on Hikvision/Ultimax DVRs
In terms of performance and technical parameters, the Hikvision/Ultimax series is divided into 3 subgroups:
Hikvision 72xx WD1
Thanks to the WD1 (960x576px) resolution, the DVRs ensureincreased image quality of the video footage from 650 TVL (700 TVL B/W) cameras (compared with D1/4CIF DVRs). It is connected with the number of effective pixels in such cameras, 976x582. Common D1(4CIF) DVRs with recording resolution of 704x576 cannot save the full detail provided by the cameras.

Ultimax 12xx (economic)
Ultimax 12xx are cost-effective standalone DVRs with network capability, suitable for high resolution CCTV systems with moderate frame rates (4CIF/2CIF at 6-12 fps in each channel, depending on the model). In more dynamic environments, the user can select the recording frame rate at 25 fps, but in this mode only channel 1 can be recorded with 4CIF resolution - the recording resolution of the rest (2-4/8/16, depending on the model) is limited to CIF/QCIF. The DVRs combine the high recording quality and advanced functions with affordable price.

Ultimax 13xx (25 fps)
Thanks to the 25 fps frame rate in each channel, the DVRs are ideal for monitoring dynamic environments such as streets, expressways/highways, parking lots, bus stations etc. For example, a car traveling at a speed of 60 km/h covers 16 meters a second, so a DVR recording video at 10 fps would have "linear resolution" of 1.6 meter, not acceptable in many applications (loss of a huge amount of information between consecutive frames). Ultimax 13xx DVR operating at 25 fps provides video footage that is 2.5 times more accurate in this sense.

DVRs connected to the Internet are hots with specific IP addresses, an example is 62.121.130.38. It would be difficult to remember a number of such numeric strings, so they are translated from human-friendly computer host names by Domain Name System (DNS). A DVR gets its host name - a much "natural" form of address. DDNS means Dynamic DNS, which allows for using fixed domain names in the case of IP addresses being assigned dynamically. The function is necessary when the ISP cannot provide fixed IP addresses, or such option is too expensive.

Hikvision/Ultimax DVRs support the following services:
  • hkDDNS (organized by Hikvision)
  • NO-IP
  • PeanutHull
  • DynDns
  • IPServer
DDNS configuration window in M72104, M72108 and M72116 DVRs
Choosing e.g. the hkDDNS service, the administrator has to create a user account at www.hik-online.com and enter into appropriate boxes of the configuration window: user name, password, domain name (host name of the DVR).
