A Golden Media A99450 CR 990 Spark Linux PVR egyike a legolcsóbb Linux-alapú DVB-S/S2 vevő a piacon. A legújabb generációjú műholdas vevőt az STI 7111 processzor vezérli, amely teljes mértékben támogatja a multimédiás funkciókat.

The receiver can be managed by an optional operating system, which makes it extremely versatile. Users who have no experience in satellite technology and Linux software, can control the receiver through Spark overlay which allows quick access to all functions as well as enables installation of all the possible add-ons just by using the remote control. Those who want to squeeze out the full potential of the receiver, can benefit from the popular open source software based directly on Linux OS. So, for the first category of users the GM 990 receiver is no different than other satellite receivers, but more ambitious or advanced users can personalize the device using the potential of Linux system.

The selection of the operating system is done when the receiver is switched on, by using the appropriate key combination. The receiver will retain the setting during subsequent start-ups.

Specifically for Golden Media 990 there has been created ftp server containing multiple support files. It is good solution for the reason that some of them are quite large (40MB). The server access data:

To use the server, you need an FTP client. The files from the server can also be downloaded by the receiver, by entering parameters provided in Download section. The server includes additional software, descriptions, utilities to update plugins and other files, as well as downloadable channel lists.

The menu of the receiver contains Spark icon which introduces an online help system. Of course, the website is available when GM 990 is connected to the Internet. This extended help system will ultimately include downloadable user manuals in multiple languages, FAQs, and other resources. Already, it is possible to receive text messages from the distributor, including information about new versions of software and channel lists. The receiver can also be used for browsing RSS channels, watching weather forecasts, accessing YouTube and Shoutcast services.

Aside from advanced software based on Linux OS, Golden Media GM990 CR HD PVR Spark LX is also equipped with the latest hardware, e.g. capable of receiving programs with very low SR (below 1000).
